“The one who win is not like the others”
In the Kamaz squad, the secret to success is linked to their outstanding heritage. Edition after edition, new crew members appear on the Dakar after having spent years understanding the philosophy of the team and the specificities of the blue truck. Experience is gained by listening to the elders, by sitting at their sides on various races including the Dakar, by helping team mates to capture glory. In such a successful team, one learns from the youngest age and matures to one day become a key element and potential race winner. Like so many before him, Anton Shibalov was raised in Tatarstan, home of the famous manufacturer. He learned from the best, starting with the master himself: Vladimir Chagin. The Russian was given a first opportunity to compete on the Dakar as a driver back in 2014 and he certainly made the best of it, capturing a very promising 5th spot, helping Karginov to win that year. On paper he doesn't appear as a leader based on his slight lack of experience in South America. He will however be extremely precious in Kamaz's quest to win again and has the speed to remain within shooting distance of the best, including his team mates. Alongside Robert Amatych and newcomer Ivan Romanov, Shibalov will certainly be ready to take bigger responsibilities if requested.
A.S.: “It is more interesting to compete with strong competitors as Vladimir Chagin says. He also likes to say that at the Dakar, the one who wins is not like the others. For example, we always try to go just outside the normal path because it is usually crushed ground and can be as smooth as a highway road. That is actually the principle of Chagin's driving style who never went on smooth surfaces. That's why his pace is always high. And it is not for nothing he is called «The Tsar». Chagin's style is a good example for us. »
